2010 - Year in Review

The West Orange Police Athletic League had some great moments during the 2010 year and some sad ones as well.  The year began with the passing of one of the most beloved members of the PAL Pete Pannucci Sr.  However before Pete's passing he was informed that he was the PAL's selection to receive the Rec Achievement Award for Volunteer Service.  He was proud to receive the award.  Pete will be missed but always remembered at the PAL.
Baseball season got underway and on Opening day we had the opportunity to honor a player who's love for the West Orange PAL is as strong today as it was when he played 35 years ago.  Jeff Domenick who has gone through some medical issues but still devotes his time to his wife and 2 sons.  He threw out the first pitch with pride and had the opportunity to show his kids where it all started for him.
Baseball season was as exciting as ever and Willmans Autobody ended up winning the Junior level championship while Vanderhoof Transportation took the trophy at the Senior level.
Football and Cheerleading kicked off August 1st.  The program provided excitement at all levels with the Junior Pee Wee squad leading the way at 6 - 2.    We also had the opportunity to watch our alumni kids at the highschool turn in one of the most amazing seaxons in recent West Orange History.  8-1 at the Varsity Football level is no easy task and almost every kid on the team came through the PAL.
At the Football Banquet at the end of the year the Awards were given out.  The Albanese Award is given to the player who is in their final year of the PAL and demonstrates leadership and effort through example.  This years recipients were Andrew Cumming for Football.   Also given this year for the first time were the 6 year awards.  Since joining the new football league 6 years ago the length of service a child can give to the program is 6 years not 5.  The first 2 recepients of the 6 year award were Joe Casalino and Emily Kohline.
We did have the sad task in saying goodbye to Sheila Parisi as our Cheerleading director.  Sheila informed the Board early on in the year that this would be her last year of service.  Sheila brought enthusiam, consistancy and leadership to our cheer staff.  She was strong for her coaches and for the PAL.  Sheila we thank you for your years of service and you will be missed.
2010 Fundraisers were succesful this year, the Bowling night in April and the Golf Outing in August kept people involved.
